Went for the first time with family from Michigan. I would never had know it was a pizza place that was open . Pizza was so good I was surprised. I don't love heavy sauce or bread but this was taste and light . I would go back again any time. Service was very good and fast

They make some of the best pizza! We have been here a few times on trips to the area and always want to come back for more. Friendly service. They are always busy because it is so good but we have never waited too long for take out.

Having finally stepped into the original Buddy's Pizza I have a lot of feelings. Part of me is disappointed in myself for waiting so long. Another part is full of longing for everyone who has experienced the pizza at the other Buddy's locations to visit the mothership. And still another part is angry about the expansion of this Detroit classic because the pizza made further afield does not do justice to the original. Is this in a rough part of town? Maybe. Is it a longer drive to get there? Probably. Is the ambiance more neighborhood dive bar than famous pizza joint? Absolutely. Doesn't matter. It just adds more to the charm. It make going an ever more special experience. If you like pizza, just go. Now, is it the best of all the Detroit style pizza places out there? I'd argue there are actually better pies out there. But one should come and pay their respects every now and again. Our waitress advised that to get the true taste of the classic, one has to get the pepperoni under the cheese, instead of the old world pepperoni that are cooked on top. While that may be true, the pepperoni on the top work so much harder. Next time, I think I may have go get triple pepperoni. Classic on the bottom and double old-world pepperoni on top. Because while the cup and char works well, there just wasn't enough of them on the pie. So it goes. Sometimes one has to hone in on how to order the best pizza even at a great spot. The sausage wasn't great, more like pizza sausage pellets than the real deal, but it did have some good pop of fennel seeds in the mix. Also tried the Greek Town pie, which was also pretty darn tasty. I wanted a crispier bottom and just more caramelized cheese along the edge crusts. Even still, these elements were superior at the Hazel Park location than I experienced at other Buddy's outposts. We explained this to the waitress, who knows the story all too well. She has heard it all before, and let my table know about how the staff goes out to the restaurants to teach them how to make the pizza properly. It's like the old saying of leading a horse to water. Anyhow, I feel spiritually fulfilled for having eaten a pie on Conant Street, and I hope you get the chance to do so as well. Now's the season. When it's cold. Because this will warm you up. Deeply. Fully. And leave you very satisfied.

Who doesn't love Buddy's pizza? Well then you're wrong. :) The chicken tenders are a nice surprise, delicious, moist & crunchy. The pizza? Just look at the other 1,000's of reviews. Always good. Service was friendly and attentive. Lovely staff and great food.

The food was amazing. We travel all over the USA and we love pizza. This pizza crust was so light and tasty. It had just the right amount of burnt on it, it was the best pizza crust we've ever ate. The service was out of this world. I suck at names but they set us in the bar area and this older lady waited on us. When she found out we was from Texas she told us all about how and when Buddy's got it start. The ambience was spectacular for 1230 during the day on a Tuesday. We will definitely be back if we're ever in Detroit again. You will not be disappointed

Although I have eaten here many times, I have never reviewed the original Buddy's location. I can't say enough about how great this place is. Obviously, I am a huge fan of their pizza and salad, but the original location is so worth the visit. The staff is simply amazing - friendly, authentic and attentive. I could not believe how friendly and helpful they were. The decor inside is exactly as I remember it as a kid, but despite its age, it somehow stays very clean and well-maintained. If you want to play bocci ball, you can still use one of the two small courts out back. There are a variety of seating options, including the back room which would accommodate a large group if needed. The bar is my favorite since you can watch the game or meet new people. Come downtown and check it out before a sports game - you will definitely be glad you did. I is the perfect mix of nostalgia, great food and fun atmosphere.

WOW!!! Our server DeJuan was amazing. He told us the story of how Buddy's was founded and how they get their signature flavors into their pizza. He helped us select our pizza. We got a 8 half and half. The meat deluxe and the Detroiter. I have to say this is the BEST pizza I have ever had. The atmosphere of an iconic Detroit restaurant with amazing service and food. This is a must stop if you are in Detroit. Dejuan, thank you for a wonderful experience.

Ah yes, the original. It was here that Detroit-style pizza was initiated in the 1940s. This was a pizza pilgrimage I had to make in my lifetime, having already eaten in all the best pizzerias the East Coast has to offer. And it was simply marvelous, even exceeding expectations! That thick buttery crust often copied but never duplicated was crunchy but tender, simple yet complex, flavorful and still subtle. That impossibly stretchy cheese and the fresh, diced tomatoes were perfect complements to this rectangular perfection! It's an experience I shall never forget, and one you all must have! Visit when they first open and you won't have any wait.

An ok Detroit style original pizza place. Started in 1946 with this style pizza. It is a square pizza. Couple of all veggie options available. Make your own combination pizza costs more. 1.5$ for each topping. Pizza is ok nothing to boast about. Just try it once for the experience of this pizza style.

We were on vacation and have heard of this place so decided to stop by. I called in place a phone order and they tell you your number. This place has a side parking lot. It's a small hallway you go and as soon as you come in they ask you your number or if you want to sit. We ordered a regular pepperoni pizza. We ordered a large and I think it was $20. My sons absolutely loved this pizza they said definitely one of the best. It definitely was a delicious pizza. If you're in the area highly recommend.
